Ursula Weigold

Biography
Professor Weigold joined the faculty in 2010 as the Director of Legal Research & Writing. She has had over twenty years of teaching experience in legal research and writing at three previous law schools, most recently at Cornell Law School in Ithaca, New York. Additionally, Professor Weigold has had fifteen years of experience directing legal writing programs, first at South Texas College of Law in Houston, then at the University of St. Thomas in Minneapolis. In addition to teaching legal research and writing, she has taught courses in Professional Responsibility, Comparative Legal Systems, International Human Rights, and International Criminal Prosecutions.
Professor Weigold received her J.D. from the University of Texas, as well as her B.A. in history and B.J. in journalism. After law school, Professor Weigold served as a judicial clerk for the chief justice of the Texas Court of Appeals in Houston, then served as a senior staff attorney for the court for four years. She wrote legal memoranda, orders, and proposed opinions in over 250 civil and criminal law appeals and was board certified as a civil appellate law specialist in Texas for ten years. She has worked as a legal writing consultant for law firms and has conducted writing seminars and workshops for lawyers in government and public interest organizations. She is active in national legal writing organizations and has written on topics relating to legal writing and legal education.

Professors Ursula Weigold and Kim Peterson spoke at the 18th Biennial Legal Writing Institute Conference in Milwaukee in July 2018 on “Some User-Friendly Tools to Support Online Learning in LR&W."
In 2011, Ursula Weigold gave a presentation on the topic "Teaching Law Students How to Research: The Law School Perspective" to the Law Librarians Association of Wisconsin.
