Biography

As Director of the Government and Legislative Clinic and Native Nations Externship Program at the law school, Ms. McBride teaches the regulatory state and legislative procedure, and provides students with the unique opportunity to observe and participate in the many facets of governmental law, policy, legislation and tribal governance. Under her direct supervision, students gain first-hand experience working with government and tribal clients on legal issues with immediate policy significance. Before joining the Law School faculty, Ms. McBride was a Managing Attorney at ABC for Health, a non-profit public interest law firm dedicated to connecting families and children, especially those with special health care needs, to health care coverage and resources. Ms. McBride engaged in direct legal advocacy and litigation on behalf of clients, managed provider contracts, and negotiated with federal, state and private benefits and insurance institutions.

Prior to joining ABC for Health, Ms. McBride served as a Managing Attorney at Wisconsin Judicare, Inc., where she represented victims of violent crime, developed client interaction protocols, and partnered with the US Department of Justice Office on Violence Against Women, the AARP Foundation, and the National MS Society. Ms. McBride presented at conferences nation wide and testified at the United Nations North American Consultation on Adequate Housing. While at Wisconsin Judicare, Ms. McBride co-founded Legal Grounds Wisconsin®, a free legal clinic/coffeehouse. She was awarded the State Bar of Wisconsin "Lawyer Demonstrating Exemplary Commitment to Community" recognition for that initiative.

Ms. McBride received her J.D. from the University Of Iowa College of Law, where she was Note and Comment Editor of the Iowa Law Review. The focus of her course work was on: Patent Prosecution, Copyrights, and Non-profit Management. Ms. McBride is admitted to practice in the State of Wisconsin, Federal District Court for the Western District of Wisconsin, the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals, the US Supreme Court, and US Tax Court.
