The 1979 song “Video Killed the Radio Star” by The Buggles was the first music video ever played on then-fledgling channel MTV. 

The song title was prescient, as MTV and music videos exploded after that- and indeed, people were listening to the radio less and watching TV more. It makes sense- just like “talkie” movies effectively killed the silent film star, video effectively killed the radio star. 

There’s been a recent resurgence in audio format listening, though- via podcast. Nielsen (of course) is keeping statistics on podcasts and their listeners, which you can check out here

There are currently over 500,000 active podcasts- and UW Law School has just added one to this number. 

Wisconsin Law in Action: A University of Wisconsin Podcast is a monthly podcast featuring new or forthcoming scholarship from the University of Wisconsin Law School. The podcast explores a variety of legal topics and examines new developments in the legal academic field by discussing these topics with UW Law School Faculty. Podcast interviews are conducted by the University of Wisconsin Law School Library and are available on Soundcloud, Apple Podcasts, Google Play, and Stitcher.
