U.S. News and World report has ranked UW Law School 29th among the nation’s law schools (tied with five other schools), the magazine announced today. The school was ranked 38th last year.
“This ranking reflects the outstanding value that the University of Wisconsin Law School offers, as well as the excellent career outcomes of our recent graduates, the reputation of our faculty, and the credentials of our students” says Dean Dan Tokaji. “Equally important – although more difficult to measure – is the inclusiveness and resilience of the Wisconsin Law community, which is poised to emerge from this difficult period stronger than ever.”
Known for its law-in-action approach to legal education. UW Law students learn not only the legal rules, but why those rules evolved to address social concerns, and how they operate in the real world. “It’s something that has long attracted students to UW Law,” says Dean of Admissions, Rebecca Scheller.
“Despite the challenges of the pandemic, we continue to see tremendously qualified candidates show interest in UW Law School. Coupled with this annual recognition as one of the nation's best public law schools, we are also consistently ranked as one of the best value law schools in the U.S.,” says Scheller.
With its tradition of academic excellence and innovative teaching, UW Law School is planning to continue improving its excellent classroom, clinical, and career development programs, while holding firm to core values, including its commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
“UW Law is pleased with this recognition, but our ranking is not our mission. We will keep our eye on the real prize: providing an outstanding legal education that is affordable to all who have the capacity to excel, while advancing knowledge and promoting equal justice under law,” said Tokaji.
