Ambassador John E. Lange on "COVID, Global Health Security, and International Law"
UW Law School Alumnus Ambassador John E. Lange (Ret.) will speak about COVID-19, pandemic preparedness and response, and the international legal instruments related to global health security.
The World Health Organization’s International Health Regulations are fundamental to global health security, and the World Health Assembly will be meeting in November to consider establishing a process to draft a new international instrument on pandemics.
Lange, a retired Foreign Service Officer who currently is Senior Fellow for Global Health Diplomacy at the United Nations Foundation, earlier served as U.S. Ambassador to Botswana and as the State Department’s Special Representative on Avian and Pandemic Influenza. He also will talk about careers in diplomacy and in global health.
