Course Description

This class explores the way police function in a free society, police methods for carrying out their functions, and the need to protect constitutional rights and democratic processes. The class considers the role of law and policy in defining police authority, improving police effectiveness, reviewing and controlling police discretion, controlling police misconduct and bias, and holding police accountable to the citizenry.
